We are using EcoCompass to improve our environmental efforts
Exactly one year ago, we passed the audit of the EcoCompass environmental management system owned by the Finnish Association for Nature Conservation. The third-party audit shows that we meet all the criteria set by EcoCompass, are committed to our environmental objectives as an organisation and have successfully integrated environmental efforts into our other activities. EcoCompass covers all our logistics terminals and other facilities.
“EcoCompass is based on the ISO 14001 standard and has given us the tools to make our environmental efforts more systematic and measurable. EcoCompass has helped us identify the environmental impacts of our logistics terminals and other facilities and find concrete ways to reduce them,” says Jaana Korkiakoski, Sustainability Director at Matkahuolto.
Higher recycling rates through concrete measures
We aim to improve the recycling rate of waste in our logistics terminals and other facilities. We are constantly working to reduce the use of single-use products, gradually phasing them out.
By ensuring that our terminals and other facilities have proper collection bins and clear sorting instructions, we have made waste sorting efficient and easy to do. We have addressed the harmfulness of waste by ordering fire-safe collection containers for batteries as well. In spring 2024, we also started sorting plastic packaging waste from business operations in Vantaa, Turku and Tampere.
Our Climate Roadmap contains more than 40 science-based measures that will contribute to our sustainability goals and halve all our emissions by 2030.
