Buying and selling second-hand goods made easier – Tori and Matkahuolto start collaboration

Buying and selling second-hand goods should be as easy as purchasing new ones. Now, it’s smoother than ever, as Tori and Matkahuolto have started a collaboration. Items bought and sold via ToriDiili can now be shipped with Matkahuolto’s parcel services, providing users with more delivery options and greater flexibility in trading.
“There has been demand for more delivery choices in ToriDiili, and our collaboration with Matkahuolto meets this need with fast transport and over 2,500 new pickup points and parcel lockers,” says Tori’s CEO, Jenni Tuomisto.
Families with children prefer second-hand
For families with children, second-hand goods are not only an economical choice but also a practical and responsible one. Kids’ clothes, toys, and accessories quickly become too small or unnecessary, making buying used and reselling a natural part of family life.
According to a survey by Tori, families with children stand out as active buyers of second-hand goods. In the past six months, 86% of families have purchased at least one second-hand item instead of a new one, while the figure for the general population is significantly lower at 68%.
Some families rely almost entirely on second-hand items. Six percent of families have bought everything they need second-hand, highlighting the growing importance of the second-hand market from both an economic and sustainability perspective.
The survey, conducted by research company Nepa, included responses from 6,489 Finnish adults.
“Families with children are clearly the most active second-hand buyers. Buying used is an easy, affordable, and sustainable way to get clothes and other necessities for kids’ constantly changing needs. It’s fantastic to see how second-hand shopping has become a natural part of family life,” says Jenni Tuomisto.
Finns expect smooth parcel deliveries
For many families, flexible delivery options are essential. When purchases can be directed to a pickup point or parcel locker near home, work, or along daily routes, there’s no need to adjust schedules around package deliveries and pickups.
In a changing world, consumer expectations for parcel services are also increasing. Matkahuolto has invested in product and service development as well as customer experience and has been named Finland’s most respected parcel brand for several years in a row in the Brand Valuation study conducted annually by Taloustutkimus Oy.
“People’s lives are busy, and every moment saved is valuable. Matkahuolto’s over 2,500 pickup points and parcel lockers cover all of Finland, located in key areas such as shops and along daily commutes, allowing buyers and sellers to choose the most convenient pickup location,” says Kati Nevalainen, Head of Parcel Services at Matkahuolto.
Buying second-hand is a responsible choice
Buying second-hand is one of the easiest ways to reduce natural resource consumption and lower carbon footprints. Extending a product’s life cycle reduces the need for new manufacturing, saving energy, water, and raw materials while also cutting down on waste.
Consumers recognize this value. Tori has been named Finland’s most responsible e-commerce brand for the fourth time in the Sustainable Brand Index 2025 study. Additionally, Finnish consumers have rated Matkahuolto as the most responsible parcel and logistics brand for the third consecutive year in the same study.
“We’re pleased that Finns value the second-hand market and recognize Tori as Finland’s most responsible e-commerce brand. Second-hand shopping is an ecological, practical, and economical choice,” says Jenni Tuomisto.
