We updated our Sustainability Programme to better meet stakeholders’ expectations and changes in the operating environment

11.10.2024

We have updated our Sustainability Programme based on a double materiality assessment in line with EU sustainability legislation. The update will keep our Sustainability Programme aligned with stakeholder expectations and changes in our operating environment.

In the double materiality assessment, we have identified the sustainability themes and topics that are essential to us, and we have incorporated the most important ones into our updated Sustainability Programme,” says Jaana Korkiakoski, Sustainability Director at Matkahuolto.

The update does not involve any changes to our ambitious emission reduction targets, and we will continue to aim to halve our emissions from 2020 levels and achieve carbon neutrality for all our operations by 2030.

Caring for our employees – support for engagement and inclusion as part of our Sustainability Programme

A new theme in our Sustainability Programme is supporting employee engagement and inclusion. We have set up a working group to map opportunities to increase diversity and inclusion and prevent discrimination in our work community. We measure our success through the engagement index of our annual Workplace Survey.

To improve occupational safety, we are working on an occupational safety roadmap, which will serve as a basis for setting a target value for the accident frequency rate, a measure of occupational safety.

We mitigate climate change and prevent habitat loss by enabling a car-free lifestyle

Regarding the environment, we are working to mitigate climate change and prevent habitat loss, in line with our updated Sustainability Programme. As a new theme, we have added the protection of biodiversity to our Sustainability Programme. In 2025, we will map the impact of our activities on nature, so that we can measure our nature footprint and develop a plan to reduce it by the end of the strategy period.

In our Sustainability Programme, we are committed to enabling and promoting a car-free lifestyle. We are developing the Trips and Tickets app, its service offering and awareness among our customers. As a measure of success, we look at the national coverage of trips purchased through the Trips and Tickets app.

In addition, we have for the first time included sustainable procurement in our Sustainability Programme, which we have identified as a particular area for development. We currently require our partners to commit to an ethical code of conduct. In the future, we will pay more attention to low-carbon products and services and to suppliers’ own measures to reduce their carbon footprint.
